The President of Manmin International Seminary
Rev. Dr. Esther Kooyoung Chung
Dr. Esther Kooyoung Chung was born in Eumseong County, Chungcheongbuk-Do, Republic of Korea, on January 23, 1949.
At the age of 23 in 1971, she graduated from Seoul Women's University. That same year, she entered Korea University Graduate School from which she graduated with a Master's Degree in Food Technology two years later. In 1976 she started to teach at Seoul women's University as a professor, and two years later, in 1978, Dr. Chung received her Doctor's Degree in Food Engineering from Seoul National University Graduate School.
At the urging of her friends, family, and colleagues, Dr. Chung selected to further her studies. In 1980, she embarked on a two-year graduate course on Christian Education at Western Evangelical Seminary in Portland, Oregon, USA, from which she received her Master's Degree in Christian Education in 1982.
After returning to Korea, Dr. Chung was appointed to the office of President at Seoul Women's University in December 1984, and served three four-year terms until 1996.
In 1991, Dr. Chung was invited to Manmin Central Church's 9th Anniversary Worship Service and met with its Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee for the first time. Rev. Dr. Lee left a lasting impact on Dr. Chung with whom he shared fellowship from that point forth. She began serving as a faculty member at United Holiness Theological Seminary sponsored by Rev. Dr. Lee, and joined his ministry in preaching, translation and education at a number of organizations affiliated with his church.
Dr. Chung is currently Vice Chairperson of the United Holiness Church of Jesus Christ, President of Manmin International Seminary, Professor at United Holiness Theological Seminary and the Manmin Mission Training Center, and Director of the Translation Bureau and Vice President of the Mission Committee at Manmin Central Church. And also Dr. Esther Chung is Honorary Professor of Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco, Peru, which was certified by the government of Peru.
Her published works Nothing Is Free of Charge and It Is No Joke are steady-sellers in Korea while her columns regularly appear on Manmin, the seasonal magazine of Manmin Central Church.
